“I’m cool dad, that’s my thang. I’m hip, I surf the web, I text. LOL: laugh out loud, OMG: oh my god, WTF: why the face" -Phil Dunphy (Modern Family)

Dads are pretty awesome to have in your life, right? My dad is one of my favorite people to be around. He is super funny and can always make me laugh. Sometimes, it is more laughing at him than with him, but still. My dad, like many, thinks he is super cool, which he is. However, it is hilarious to see him attempt to act "hip" in today's culture. Phil Dunphy, the father in T.V.'s hit series: Modern Family, is one of those dads who thinks he is a lot cooler than he actually is. However, when it comes down to it, he truly is a great dad to have. Here are 5 things I would like to thank my dad for, as told my Phil Dunphy.

Thank you for....

1. All the life advice

Okay, I know sometimes the advice isn't always serious, and it is just to make me laugh. But hey, it works. Jokes aside, thank you for always supporting my life choices and for pushing me to the best of my ability. You taught me how to catch all the curve balls life has to throw at me, and to throw them back 10 times harder. I cherish our life talks and do not know where I would be without them.

2. Teaching me that it is okay to make mistakes

3. Always cheering me up

After a bad day, you are my go-to person. Thank you for constantly making me laugh with your corny jokes and for teaching me to not always take life so seriously. You never fail to bring me laughter and joy and I am forever grateful that I have obtained your sense of humor. I don't care what anybody says, now that is pretty funny.

4. For sharing your hobbies with me

Even though you have shown me some killer dance moves, I am talking about your love for sports. Thank you for sharing this with me at such a young age. Sports have been a huge influence on my life and has even helped me find my passion. None of that would have been possible if it wasn't for you. Thank you for forcing me to watch ESPN with you or listen to sports radio on long car rides. I am thankful that I get to share such a big part of my life with you and that we will always have a special bond over the love for the game.

5. Keeping it real

Some parents hate to admit that their children are actually growing up. Thank you for treating me like the young adult that I am and for letting me branch out on my own. You have no idea how much it is appreciated. Even though I am out on my own I know that you are only a call away and are willing to help with whatever it is I may need. Now that is keeping it real.

Although most young people are embarrassed by their parents, I'm not. My dad is one of the coolest people I know, and I'm lucky enough to have a role model like him in my life. I am truly blessed to be able to say I have a friend and a parent all wrapped up into one.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
