The last time the Cubs won the World Series, women didn’t have the right to vote, the Wright brothers had just revealed their plane to the public and Teddy Roosevelt was president. It was an entirely different world.
For any Cubs fan, you know what it’s like to love the Cubs, to cheer for them every year despite people laughing at you and making jokes about how much they suck.
For years, we sucked it up and smiled through the losses and failed seasons.
But this year is different. This year is epic.
This year, we won.
This season was incredible. The Cubs killed it in almost every single game with over 100 game wins. The team finally gelled and was working together. They finally had the strength to lift the city of Chicago and carry them through.
That’s one of the magical things about being invested in a team, no matter the sport. You feel like you know the players as if they were your own neighbors. You feel a camaraderie with your fellow fan. When you see someone walking down the street with your teams logo or colors, you feel a kinship with that person. It’s a wonderful connection and the Cubs certainly have loyal fans.
108 years of waiting was certainly worth it with game 7 of the World Series, so to all my fellow Cubs fan out there, wear those colors. Fly the W.
It was an amazing season. That’s all that can really be said.
Hey Chicago, what do you say?
