A positive attitude can make all the difference

Trying new things can be fun, they can be scary, and sometimes trying new things is boring. We can all say that at some point we have all tried something new or we would all still just be lying in cribs and crawling around on all four. Sometimes new things stick, like walking, but sometimes new things flop, like getting a really bad perm. Regardless of the outcome, good or bad, I encourage you to try that new thing.

New positive attitudes are probably the best new things anyone could try out in the most general aspect. Unhappy, in a rut, unsatisfied, trying a new positive attitude could break the chains of unhappiness and boredom. Try going from an insulated, unhappy college student with a bad attitude to a college student with a positive outlook. Trust me no one want to be friends with the sour-puss that sulks in their dorm room watching Netflix till three in the morning (good description of my freshmen year attitude). That new attitude can change everything about you. Trying that new postive attitude can be all the difference between unimaginable joy and misery.

Living in a rut can be extremely discouraging. Day in and day out doing the same stuff that may or may not be fulfilling can be like carrying around a sack of cow poop: it stinks. Idle minds can be one of the worst afflictions. So what do you do? Try something new. Try the new club that does community service on the weekends, if that is what breaks the monotony. Try the club that supports your hobby. Usually trying new clubs or activities does double duty of keeping your mind stimulated and also fostering new human interaction.

Another new thing to try is anything to get the blood pumping. Trying a new physical activity, be that the Crossfit club or simply walking to class instead of driving, can work wonders for the mind and body. As many of you already know excercise releases endorphins and in turn endorphins make you feel good. Trying a new excercise routine or just being a little more active can improve mood and attitude (comes full circle). And a lot of times, new exercise can bring about new social aspects.

Trying new things can make life better or easier or really whatever you want it to be. The best advice that has ever been given to me, that I could pass on is to try on a positive attitude. If you don't like it, you don't have to keep it. Try something new today

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
