Here's What I Want For You

There is too much life left and a ton of boys that you have never met that will cherish you for who you are.

Here's What I Want For You
photographsbykarley

I once received a text from my dad, and this is what it read.

"Here is what I want for you:

A boy that doesn't lie.

A boy that puts you first.

A boy that respects you.

A boy that you would be proud to introduce to your dad.

A boy that values your opinion...

There is too much life left and a ton of boys that you have never met that will cherish you for who you are."

Since receiving this text, the thought that my dad wants so much for me has raced through my mind a million times. He wants me to be loved by a man who can express his feelings, not a boy who plays with my own. He wants me to find a man that doesn't make me question my character and if I have to change parts of who I am in order to please them. He wants me to find a boy who puts me before his friends. He wants me to find a boy who would rather hang out with me on a Friday night than go out with his friends. He wants me to be respected. He wants me to be valued. He wants me to be proud of the boy who has my heart.

So to the person reading this, I hope you find someone who will be honest with you from day one. I hope you will find someone who puts you first. I hope you find someone who respects you and shows it every time they're around you. I hope you find someone that you are proud of. I hope you find someone who values you and your opinions. I hope you find someone who makes you question why you ever thought love couldn't last. Lastly, I hope you are this person to someone. I hope that because of you, someone believes in love again. I hope that because of you, someone feels worthy. I hope that because of you, someone feels valued.

Choose wisely with whom you give your heart to, because not everyone is going to treat it with care.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
