Here's Why Trump Won

Here's Why Trump Won

Honestly, I didn’t think Trump was going to win last week—not even a little bit. First, Hillary Clinton flipped Florida. Next, she was projected to win Illinois and four other states, so I thought to myself, “This is it. All of this time I invested into this year’s election has been for nothing.” Once I had acclimated myself to the reality that Clinton would be our next president, I went upstairs to my room, closed the door, turned off the lights, listened to music, and tried to forget about this living nightmare. An hour went by and suddenly, Trump was starting to make a comeback in states that I didn’t think he could win.

And then, he took Ohio.

You can say whatever you want about Trump as a person. Of course, he’s said some pretty ridiculous things in the past that I do not agree with, and there were times when I wished he kept his mouth shut for his sake. However, what he managed to pull off on Tuesday was nothing short of a miracle. I’ve never seen anything like it before in my life.

No matter how upset you are over the outcome of this past election, you need to understand why Trump won, and the implications it could have for our country as well as the rest of the world. First and foremost, let’s make one thing clear: the media is unreliable. Never have I been exposed to so much dishonesty, misleading, and desperation. I posted an article about this same issue a month ago, and it couldn’t be any truer today. In short, I asked my audience what business social media venues, news outlets, and Hollywood celebrities have telling me WHO I’m supposed to vote for when I’m free to make that decision on my own terms. Also, you had your so-called political analysts, the same people who said that Trump would lose the primaries, insist that Clinton would defeat Trump by a landslide… and look what happened. Any credibility they had completely evaporated.

As far as the “Not My President” movement is concerned, what do these people, these Millennials, think they are accomplishing? At the time of this writing, and I could be wrong about this because it hasn’t been verified by multiple sources, all votes have been counted. It turns out that Trump actually defeated Clinton in the popular vote by a margin of about 700,000 votes, with Trump acquiring 62,972,226 votes and Clinton acquiring 62,277,750 votes. So the argument that Clinton won the popular vote and that the electoral college should therefore be abolished is no longer valid. Despite this, the electoral college is there for a reason: to prevent states from over-representation. It’s been the staple of our democracy since the country’s conception. Moreover, those who stand in stern opposition to Trump’s victory (many of whom didn’t even vote) profess to support peace, love, equality, and social justice, yet are the same people who are burning American flags, violently assaulting Trump supporters, shouting obscenities, and destroying public property. The hypocrisy is astounding.

With Donald Trump against all odds for so long, how could he have possibly won the election then? The polls had him down from 5 to 10 points leading up to voting day. Everyone seemed to hate him!

Trump won because he had the support the media failed to cover. 62.9 million people voted against political correctness, a failing healthcare system, the prospect of a 550% increase in Syrian refugees coming into the country, increased taxes, weak leadership, government corruption, and generally the most dishonest and duplicitous person to ever run for the White House. In the end, it was the defiance that brought Trump to victory.

So do I think Trump will make a good president? The short answer is “I don’t know.” He could end up being the best president in recent history, or the opposite could be true. All we can really do is wait and then make our final assessments at the end of his term. One thing is for certain: foreign leaders around the world and even his former rivals are already pledging to work with him, so I’m not complaining just yet.

For now, I would like to congratulate President-elect Donald Trump. We wish you the best of luck!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
