If you know me, you know that Frozen is without a doubt my favorite Disney movie of all time. Well, over the weekend I was finally able to sit down and watch Moana, and honestly if it’s not my new favorite Disney movie, it’s definitely a close second. I laughed and I cried. I found it to be slightly relatable, and I decided that not only is Moana a notable princess, but she can definitely act as a role model to any type of person. So here are five reasons why I think everyone should take the time to watch the Disney’s Moana.

1.) Moana can be looked at as a role model to anyone

Throughout the duration of the movie Moana faces several challenges, all of which knock her down, but no matter what Moana always gets back up and tries again. Yes, the ocean is almost always there for Moana when she does get pushed down… But, she doesn’t expect help from anyone. She takes on a huge amount of responsibility at only 16 years old, meanwhile I get exhausted after attending one of my five classes.

2.) The only love story in Moana is the one between her and her grandmother

The majority of songs, movies, and television shows that come out nowadays revolve around love, whereas in Moana, the plot of the movie is more focused on her saving her village. Like I said, the only love story in Moana is the one between her and her grandma. I admired the writers for incorporating the love story between Moana and her grandmother for two reasons. The first being that it was nice to see yet another Disney movie strictly about girl power, Moana could focus on accomplishing her goals instead of being distracted by a male love interest. The second being that I am also extremely close with my grandmother(Nanny), so I found Moana’s love for her own grandmother to be extremely relatable. Because of the relationship I have with my own Nanny, which I keep very close to my heart, the connection I made to Moana’s relationship with her grandmother came easily to me. So shout out to my Nan, because she’s the best.

3.) It's interesting to see how Disney incorporated the Hawaiian culture into the film

Solely, I am very interested in studying cultures different than my own, so I especially idolized the way they tied different words, myths, and traditions from both the Hawaiian and Polynesian cultures. In fact, after watching the movie, I learned that “Moana” means “ocean,” or “sea,” in Hawaiian.

4.) The soundtrack is incredible

To be honest, the only reason that I was interested in seeing the movie in the first place was because of the videos that went viral of people singing the soundtrack’s “How Far I’ll Go” in a bunch of different languages. I would say that the movie has the perfect amount of songs in it for someone who loves musicals, but it also has the right amount for someone who doesn’t want to see a movie full of music.

5.) And lastly, Moana is just an overall feel-good movie

After seeing Moana, I decided that it is a movie that anybody could relate to. I think that anybody could make a connection with Moana and her love for the ocean, her grandmother, or her village. The movie is cute and funny, the songs are incredible, and it can teach viewers a couple of valuable lessons as well. I know my opinion doesn’t essentially matter, but I’d give the movie a 10/10.

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
