Here's why I love living 1,200 miles away from my best friend

No but I swear it's a good thing!

Here's why I love living 1,200 miles away from my best friend

Before I start, please ignore my ugly, un-manicured nails in the picture above. Normally I always get my nails done with my bestie, but you we know that that college kid budget isn't always permitting...

(Also- OPI please sponsor us because we go through way too many bottles of Chiffon My Mind!)

Also let's be real, my article title...kind of some clickbait. Logistically, living 1,200 miles away from my best friend sucks.

Here's the backstory:

I spent my freshman year 24 hours away from home (Connecticut) at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. Hotty Toddy to all you Ole Miss fans, students, and alum! While I was there I met my best friend Bonnie (she's from St. Louis btw). Funny enough, we actually hated each other for the first 2 months of school but that's a different story LOL. Since I decided to transfer to UConn for my sophomore year, we've gone from spending 18 hours a day together, to only being able to text and face time. (Also feel free to hit Bonnie with a follow, I swear she has the best instagram ever @Bonnie.Eckelkamp , and while you're on insta sauce me a follow too @edevinnnn) #TeamFollowBack but also #SelfPromotion !! It's 2018, leave me alone; this kinda stuff is socially acceptable now.

ANYWAYS- our time apart from each other has actually been pretty cool. We've both been forced to step out of our comfort zones and insert ourselves into friend groups that we otherwise wouldn't have. Bonnie has made some new and really awesome friends just like I have! Of course I wish that we went to the same school (hint hint: Bonnie if you're reading this come to UConn), but being apart has already helped both of us grow into better versions of our previous selves with more independence. Last year I couldn't do anything without Bon, and look how far we've come!

Now, we are able to have an outside perspective of the life the other person lives, so we're able to be more rational when helping with decision making. Before, our lives overlapped too much to the point where we couldn't identify potential problems. But now, I can easily point out problem areas to Bon and vice versa; like if she should confront someone that makes her life more difficult than it should be, or if I need to step back from academics and go do something fun. We had to step outside to get a better view of what's inside.

On a similar note, now when we do get to spend time together, we appreciate it waaaaaay more!

On the real though, living so far away sucks. Now Bonnie doesn't have a personal glam squad (aka me), and I don't have someone to binge watch movies with! #Sad!

Also- I don't want to brag and say we have the cutest matching tattoos, but if the shoe fits...

So cute, right?

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?
