The New Year, New You

Here's to the new ear! That means a new year, a new me. A new way of coming up with new ways of bettering myself and health. Though it is the beginning of the new year, we usually end up coming up with New Resolutions that we sometimes don't always complete or get to do because of financial issues, or just plain out lazy. Well, how about we start out fresh this year with a simple new years resolution. A simple one like Acing that one Philosophy or Anatomy course that you heard from past students that it is complicated to pass. Why not just make that your new years resolution rather than something difficult that sometimes you won't be able to complete because of financial problems, or just because we have a busy schedule all year. It could also be your new year's resolution to make more time for other things like travel or even going to that wedding expo or that spontaneous road trip adventure you've been planning since the first year that you have yet to take. Why not that one? Why not that one?

Well, we can't really do that one because we don't have a lot of time on our hands. Unless you're rich, and you are able to do any type of spontaneous road trip when you want, but if that's the case, good for you! We all wish we could be like you, but sadly we aren't all like you and have to slave over a 500-1000 page book for our midterms, and we don't get free time until we complete that book or assignment. All work and no play makes us a dull girl or boy. Ahem, I'm sorry, that was out of line. Anyway, back to what we were talking about, ( dull girl or boy...) Agh! Stop it! (Okay...). Okay, it may have stopped for now, (Hopefully it's stopped.) So, even though it is the beginning of a new year, we strive over different ways to better ourselves and our lives. If you want to cut down on eating a lot of carbs, then, by all means, do that. After all, it is your new year's resolution. If you want to go work out at the gym and make sure you have the Baby got back bubble well taken care of, then keep going at it. You got this, sugar.

If it is your new year's resolution to better yourself by making it a goal this year to save money, then do it! Save as much as you can to make that dream trip across Europe happen. You never know what will happen if you don't go for it and see what happened. Remember, 2016 may have been horrible for you, but that doesn't mean 2017 will be the worse. It's up to you to make 2017 the greatest or the worse. We can't decide for you, only you can make it happen. So, get up now and go do it or else, All work and no play makes us all a dull girl and boy.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
