Blow your own damn mind.

Here's Some Encouragement

Okay so here we are, another week into school...work...life. It's crazy how fast it all moves isn't it? The (what seems like) never ending consistency of things we have to do and just life in general is kind of overwhelming sometimes huh? You're stressed out, right? 'Cause same.

Well here's what I'm going to ask you to do before you continue reading: take a deep breath. Seriously, do it. Right now. And when I say deep breath, I'm talking the deepest breath ever.

Did you do it? Awesome.

Whenever I start to feel stressed out or overwhelmed this is the first thing I do and it helps like no other. There's actually some science behind breathing deeply when you're stressed, but I'll spare you the facts and just get to the encouraging part of this article.

I really did used to struggle with stress and the fear of not being able to accomplish things and make the correct decisions. Over the summer I grew into this place of change and not worrying about every single little thing anymore. Lately I have been able to go into situations head on, with some fear yes, but at the same time I haven't let that fear give me anxiety about the outcome. And let me tell ya, it has seriously changed me and my outlook on life so much.

So what's going on? Are you in a time crunch? Worried about having to make a tough decision or worried that you might be making a wrong one? Are you scared you just aren't capable of doing something that has been put in front of you?

I'm going to ask you to do something else now. I know there's a lot of instructions in this article, but just trust. Think about the things that you were faced with a year ago or maybe even a couple months ago and think about how you've accomplished them and moved past them when at the time, you didn't think you would be able to. Now you're here in this moment faced with that same feeling and you're letting it consume you, but for what?

Cool right?

Was it perfect? Heck no. Did you at least try to give it everything you had to offer at the time? Absolutely. And look where you are now, past all of it. Never stop, guys. Don't get caught up in this cycle of fear. Keep moving, keep expanding and keep showing up for yourself. You are so, so capable. When you get worried just remember that life is a pretty resilient thing, it turns out.

In a year from now you're going to be in this situation again because that's just how life is. So when you look back at this moment what are you going to see? Model what you want for your future self.

Go blow your own damn mind.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
