Over the past week, rumors have been flying around, speculating whether or not One Direction is indeed just on a hiatus or if they are actually breaking up. Earlier last week, US Weekly reported that an "anonymous source" close to the band confirmed that the foursome were done for good and would not be reuniting after their hiatus.
Directioners everywhere have been put through the ringer and are more than likely freaking out and making their own guesses as to whether or not the band will stay together. This rumor probably brought up some emotions and memories from when it was finally announced that Zayn quit the band. If you remember, the original reason given for Zayn's departure was that he needed a short break to spend time with his family, when in reality, Zayn and the rest of the 1D team knew he wouldn't be coming back. They just tried to soften the blow to Directioners' hearts.
This brings us to today, a time where the four-person band announced an extended hiatus and break-up rumors are now ample and spreading like wildfire. The speculation comes from the rumor that the band has not renewed their contracts or signed any papers since going on their hiatus. However, there is no need to panic.
"But, why shouldn't I panic?" you ask. Let's get real; just because Harry, Liam, Niall, and Louis did not renew their contracts does not mean, in any way, that they are breaking up for good. Not signing a contract could mean that there's something in the proposed contract that the four of them do not agree with, suggesting that they'd just prefer a revision. It could also mean that they don't want to stay with the company, and could be looking for a new place to create ties. It is also important to remember that they are taking an extended hiatus, probably falling between 18 months to 2 years. Would you sign a contract for a job you wouldn't start until two years from now? I know I wouldn't.
So, fangirls and fanboys of the world, do not be afraid. Don't worry about whether or not One Direction is breaking up. Until you hear the words straight from their mouth (or Twitter), do not assume that life as you know it is over.
Everything will be OK, I promise.
