Every year we celebrate our fathers. We celebrate all the countless hours they've worked in order to better our lives, we celebrate the hard work they've put in to make sure their kid's futures are secure, but most importantly we celebrate the endless love they have given us since the day we were born.
Now I'm not quite sure whether or not the first word that came out of my mouth was 'dad,' but one thing I'm sure about is that my dad has never left my side since day one. Fathers are something special. They are the ones who teach you how to ride your bike, they are the ones who end up doing your math homework for you (well at least mine did), and they are the ones who support you and are your #1 fans forever.
Now I can go on and write countless stories on everything that my dad has done, but there is one thing my dad did which showed that I had made him proud. It was back in November when I had my first article published in my school's newspaper. That weekend I went home and saw that my dad had the picture of my article that I sent him set as his wallpaper. To this day, he hasn't changed it, and that couldn't make me happier. The little things we do as daughters or sons for our parents, in this case, our fathers, really show us the value how each and every single action of ours really affects them.
Throughout every endeavour that I have faced in the 18 years I've been alive, the one person that has always taught me from right and wrong has been my dad. I know I've caused him to question my choices and decisions at times, but whatever I have done and will do in the future is to make sure that I make my dad proud. The reason who I am today and the reason I am going to Loyola is because of my dad. I remember move-in day of freshman year, my dad wasn't able to make it, as he was on a business trip. However, I woke up that morning to an email which began with the words "Dear Nimah." As I read that email and soaked in every word that my dad had written, I knew from that day that when I stepped into Loyola and began my journey there, I would have to give back everything that my dad had ever given me. So, if you're reading this right now dad, I hope I have made you proud so far.
To those who celebrated with their fathers this year and to those who weren't able to, one thing that I know for sure is that our fathers will always have our backs. No matter how many tantrums we've thrown as children and no matter how many times we've messed up, I just want to say to all fathers out there, thank you for being the best for your kids.
