A Letter To My New Little

I always wanted to have a younger sister, so you're my dream come true!

A Letter To My New Little
Raegan Thomas

Dear Little,

You have no idea how much you are loved! Right now you have no idea who I am, but I certainly know you. The family is already obsessed with you and we are counting down the days until the reveal. I promise to strive to be the best big ever because you deserve the best.

I know a little bit about being a big sister, but only to a younger brother. I've never had a little sister, so you are my first. Sisterly love has always been a foreign concept to me before joining Alpha Delta Theta, and now I can't picture my life without it. When you decided to join ADT, you weren't just getting a big sister, you were getting a whole army of girls that will always have your back.

We all love you so much. You already mean the absolute world to me!

Next week will be an exciting week for both of us. Big/little week is not just about getting gifts, but it's about showing how we pay attention to details. We want to cater our presents to what you like. We want to show you that the little things are what is important in life. We want you to feel apart of something bigger.

That's what happens when you join a sorority. You are becoming a member of something bigger.

Not only will we physically have your back, but we will have it spiritually as well. I can promise you that I'll pray for you daily. As a big sister, I vow to protect you and be there for you when you need someone to vent or rant to, or if you need a shoulder to cry on.

If you have exciting news, I want to know all about it! I'm here to be your cheerleader. I want to encourage you. So, tell me the prayer requests and the praises.

I have to admit that I was hesitant about becoming a Big this semester. I knew I wanted to be one eventually, but I also wanted to wait until my Big was back from studying abroad. Your Grand Big is so excited to meet you by the way.

But it's true. I was going to wait until she was back to welcome the new addition to our family. When I decided to take on a little, I was anxious and nervous to find out who the new one would be. I'm not sure why I was worried at all because I fell in love immediately!

We are going to have so much fun. I hope you like the gifts each day because they were made just for you! Homemade gifts have always held a special place in my heart, just like you do too now. I have been busy crafting for you and I have enjoyed it so much. Getting to know you has been awesome.

Start to get excited about the reveal! It will be here before you know it. It's very much like Christmas morning. There will be hugs, tears of joy, and time spent with family. How lucky are you? You get two Christmases this year!

Love, your super excited Big

P.S. to all Littles: don't trust any of the clues your Big gives you. It could be any of us!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
