Here are 8 things we need to STOP doing to ourselves.

1. Picking apart things on your body that you hate

You don't understand how much strain that puts on your body. Being unhappy with your reflection in the mirror is not helping your optimism. There's nothing worse than someone being insecure with their body and that negative energy being distributed among everyone else. You are amazing, you are beautiful and you need to know that.

2. Settling

NO! Always work on the next big thing. Never settle for anything less than what you're worth. You are worth a million and you need to work towards it!

3. Belittling your successes

Stop trying to cover up your accomplishments! Scream it off a mountain! Tell everyone! Because YOU made that happen and YOU have the right to brag about it.

4. Comparing yourself to others

That doesn't do anyone ANY good at all.

5. Being sad

Negative energy is contagious and it's not worth wasting your time. Spend more time smiling and less time frowning. Your skin (wrinkles) will thank you later.

6. Succumbing to peer pressure

This is where bad decisions are made. You could do something that could jeopardize your life in the future. So just save yourself.

7. Trying to impress those that don't matter

9 times out of 10, they don't care about you anyway, so stop trying to get them to care.

8. Putting people's feelings before yours

They aren't worth it. There are times to be selfish.

Okay, now here are 8 things we need to START doing to ourselves

1. Take more mental health days

You don't understand how important this is for your body, your mind and your soul. You need to relax and not do anything for a day. Try it and see how relaxed you feel after. You can do work later.

2. Drink more water and smile more!

I can't emphasize this enough!! Drink your H2O! Show your teeth. Everyone has a beautiful smile, show it off!!

3. Call yourself beautiful

Because every inch of your body is beautiful and you are worth something!

4. Call your friends beautiful

They need to hear it just as much as you do.

5. Tell yourself that you're smart

Because you are! No matter where you are in life, you got here because you know a thing or two and it's time to admit that.

6. Sleep more and worry less

The best way to take care of yourself, other than drinking water, is getting the right amount of sleep. Easier said than done, but try to make an effort to do so. If you're ever stressed out, just sit and breathe eight deep, deep breaths with your eyes closed and then try to sleep. Get rid of the bad energy.

7. Read more books

Or watch more movies. Try and learn something that's not on your phone! Put the phone down! Give your eyes and brain a break. Just put away the social media, set the phone down and go do something else that doesn't involve caring about what Becky is doing on her Friday afternoon.

8. Spend more time outside

Whether that's walking your dog, going on a run, sitting in the sun, etc. It's so important to give yourself some fresh air.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
