And in a blink, it's all gone. One day you know everything that is going on, and then the next day, everything is moving in a blur. You barely get the chance to sit, nor do you make time for it. You see a person sobbing into their hands as you are in a rush somewhere. But you pass them by. You have no time to take that moment. But what if you had taken that moment? It would have made all the difference for that person.
Today everyone is at a constant speed. How fast can I get this task done? How quickly can I get my coffee and still make it to work on time? Meals are rushed and it's rare when someone makes time for one another. Being on their phone is a priority. And I understand how crazy life gets. It's easy to fall into the routine of everyday life. The routine of everyday life that leaves us missing so much more than we could ever see. We have work, family, friends, jobs, and bills to pay...the list could continue forever. You barely get the chance to breathe with everything going on. We begin to let things fade. Remember that elderly man that you would always smile at and say good morning to when you would go buy coffee? You use the drive-through now so he doesn't even cross your mind. Or what about the extra time you had set aside to help tutor students? Now you tell yourself you are much too busy to do such a thing. All those little things you used to do, meant the world to someone.
See, we never know what someone else is going through. They could be dealing with a loss of a loved one, a break up or someone worse. Whatever it may be, you do not have to ask. But you taking that moment, already can help them and change their outlook on life. It can be as simple as a smile or a hug, or even go ahead and buy someone a cup of coffee and chat about their day.
Now, I know life is busy. I know it's hard to slow down and take in everything that is going on around you. But if you do, you are sure to brighten someone else's day and possibly, change their outlook on life. Even if it is something tiny, take that extra time and make that effort to help that person who looks like they may be going through something. Remember to slow down, breathe, and take a moment.
