We all know that feeling before the holidays, where suddenly the gloomy weather reflects our mood and we can't seem to find that cheerful Christmas spirit. Seasonal depression affects us all differently, sometimes making us sad and moody. Other times, it causes extreme stress and worry.

There are solutions to battling seasonal depression and sometimes the answers are right in front of our faces!

Treat yo' self!

Christmas is about giving, whether it's giving material gifts or love, so why not give to yourself? Treat yourself! Have you been eyeing a new pair of shoes? Looking to get a haircut? Wanting to try a new skincare routine? Put yourself first and indulge a little bit. If you need to take a bubble bath to wind down after a long day, do it! Apply a face mask, soak for a while, and maybe have a nice beverage! Beat the blues by spoiling yourself!

Get in the kitchen!

There are always new recipes to try around the holidays, so get adventurous and get in the kitchen! Bake your favorite cookies, decorate them with sprinkles and frosting and leave them out for Santa. If you want to be social, invite some friends over to eat them! Try cooking that wild recipe you saw on FaceBook, and even if it's bad, you still tried something new!

Start singing!

Ever heard the phrase, "dance like nobody's watching?" Well, time to sing like no one's listening! Singing makes everyone happy, so pick your favorite Christmas tune and belt it out! Disney has multiple renditions of Christmas songs sang by Mickey Mouse and all his friends. If you're feeling weird, you can sing along to Shrek's Christmas album. Whatever song you choose to sing, sing it loud and proud!

Go for a walk, a long walk!

Feeling cooped up during the holiday season? Get some comfortable shoes on and go for a long walk! Whether it's around the block or down to the nearest store, you're up and out of bed. You get some execerise and fresh air while also checking out the sights and maybe seeing something new. As long as you get up and go somewhere, you'll feel much better after going for a walk. Bring some friends along and make an afternoon of it. If the weather does not permit outdoor walking, head to the gym or an indoor track for a few laps.

Snuggle up and chill!

There is no better way to beat the holiday blues than snuggling up and relaxing. Laying on the couch in a pile of blankets and drinking a warm drink makes us all happy. Watch some Christmas movies, binge watch your favorite show, or read a book and you'll feel so much better. With the weather getting colder, it's the perfect time to cuddle up and spend the day relaxing.

Spend time with those who matter most!

The holidays are about spending time with those you care about. Whether it's your family, friends, or a special someone, spending time with those who matter most will cure you of any seasonal depression. If you can't spend time with them, call them or FaceTime! Hearing the voice of someone you care about can cheer you up instantly.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
