In the wake of tragic, fatal flooding in West Virginia, a "one-in-1000-year" incident with the third-highest death toll in West Virginia for a flood, it is difficult to know where to begin if one wants to help. While many are willing to deliver aid in person, self-deployment is not recommended for the safety of volunteers until roadways are reopened. Interested volunteers are asked to register through this form to connect with Volunteer WV for information on when and how they can be of assistance.
A list of community foundations released by Philanthropy WV includes contact information for interested supporters who want to share resources with local charities and organizations. Additionally, Marshall University's Women's Studies program is accepting donations for flood relief aid at this GoFundMe. Donating to these groups is a way of sharing much needed resources at the local level from outside the areas ravaged by flooding. If you are not able to donate, sharing the information with people who are is strongly encouraged.
Incident updates, statewide aid opportunities, and donation information can be found at this page by West Virginia Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster.
