3…. 2…. 1…. Happy New Year! Each year we gather with the ones we love to bring in the New Year. We reflect on the past year and hope for the best in the year that is about to begin. Each year flies by faster than the previous one and time never seems to slow down enough for us to truly enjoy the last 365 days.
We all look at the New Year as a fresh start to make the changes we want to see in our lives. Whether it is to eat healthier, lose weight, be nicer, spend more time doing things we love, or reach whatever goals we have previously made, the resolutions are made in hope for "the best year yet". Since these resolutions are usually never followed throughout the whole year, we need to take a second to realize the things that we have already been doing to live our lives to the fullest.
Hang on to the people that matter.
The people that have been by your side for years are the people you should continue to keep around. They are there for you through all the laughs. They help you through the tears. They carry you through the hard times and keep the good times rolling. There are so many people who will quickly come into your life and leave just as fast. Be thankful for the ones that have stuck around through it all. You rang the New Year in with them, and that’s exactly how the next year should end.
Your future is what you make it.
Every one spends countless hours deciding on the perfect life path they want to take to reach their imagined future. Some think that it will just happen and some work hard to make sure it does. Never stop working for what you want in life. That is what will bring you the end result you want, and if you continue to work hard in 2016, then you are just one year closer to your dreams.
Keep doing what you love.
Love what you do, do what you love. Whether it is your job, a hobby or anything that makes you happy, continue to do that because that’s what will make your life what you want it to be. A year doing what you love creates a lifetime of memories, no regrets and happiness.
Love yourself.
There is nothing more important than loving the person you are. In 2016, learn to do that. You aren’t going to become anybody else anytime soon so you might as well be yourself. Be happy with yourself and that will spread to happiness within other aspects of your life, too. Be you and own it.
So I say welcome to 2016, the year where you continue to grow as a person as you surround yourself with the people you love and as you learn to love yourself even more.
