Hello October

More than just a weather changing "season"

So, you were probably expecting some cliche article about the season changing from what the title read. Wrong. Although October is a fabulous month in the beautiful season of fall that is not why I am saying hello to October. For most people, Fall is their favorite season, because the leaves are changing, the weather is nice, hoodies and bonfires, Fall sounds so wonderful right? Well, I guess I agree with Fall sounding wonderful, but people are missing a key point in why October is so great. That little key point is Hockey season.

For most people who know me, they know I love hockey, and I love the Philadelphia Flyers even more. October is the month where the Flyers begin their lovely season. As for preseason that starts in September, that's great and all but October is officially hockey season for me, as well as most people.

For this year so far, preseason is looking great for the boys, and I cannot wait to be glued to my TV for months to come. The Flyers are beyond overdue to win the Stanley Cup this year, and so far so good. I wait for the countless nights where I stare at Ticketmaster waiting for the best deal, and planning to spend all of my money on tickets.

So as your watching the leaves change, and while you're out at the bonfire drinking a beer, remember to turn on the radio, or turn on the TV and tune into the Flyers game. Even just one. You will soon become one of the greatest fans in NHL hockey, which is the fans of the Philadelphia Flyers.

By the way, the best game to watch are the Flyers versus, New Jersey Devils, New york Islanders, New York Rangers, Washington Capitals, and of course, our main rivals the Pittsburgh Penguins. You will not want to miss this.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
