Hello, Are You My Conscience?

If so, we need to set some guidelines.

Do you ever murmur curse words under your breath when driving? Perhaps maybe you yell them. Do you ask a question out loud and sometimes answer it? That little voice in our head, who is it exactly? Is it God? Maybe a different side of ourselves? Anxiety? A guardian angel? If so mine must be a fallen angel because it is quite frankly a jerk.

Sometimes the voice may seem to be screaming and other times it's a whisper. Does it encourage us to do things for the good or bad? Mine personally paints ideas for both. So, then that raises the question : are there two voices? An angel and a devil, like the old cartoons? Do we all suffer from multiple personalities or is this just considered "the subconscious"?

When we are standing in line at Starbucks ordering the Pumpkin Spice Latte you have to get, (not because you like it but because you are basic) who is it telling you, you want that PSL even though you know you'll hate it?

Who is it that is telling you, that you're too fat or too skinny?

Who is it that is telling you, that mean boy or girl will change?

Who is that telling you, you have to be One cookie cutter way?

I don't know who it is but I do know this!

If that voice can say all these negative things, who is to say we can't correct it? Sure, sometimes those curse words may seem necessary and maybe Instagramming that PSL is what helps us feel like we are somebody.

But when God, a different version of ourselves, anxiety, an angel, or just some jerk, says, "You're not worth it." Tell that voice to shut up! When that voice drags you down, tell yourself words to bring you back up! You can fight back. You have your own voice. Do not let those voices, that "subconscious", bully you. Because that voice is with you all day, every day. It knows you and your weaknesses.

That voice, whoever you think it belongs to, it is you.

It is what people often refer to as their "inner demon" or their "innermost light". That voice, although it can be an ass, is a blessing.

If you didn't fight back for yourself, in the car or not, if you don't let the peer pressure of pumpkin spice get to you - you don't experience life to its fullest.

Sure, you could never fight back in a situation but then people will take advantage of you and you won't reach your goals.

Yes, you could not like anything "mainstream" but then you might find it hard to relate to people.

This is not an excuse to be a jerk or to lose your unique personality.

Always be kind and be yourself. Always listen to your strong voice.

BUT don't forget that it is okay to let God, anxiety, an angel, or your sassier self shine through.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
