Let’s be honest: being cooped up in the library, or any other building on campus, can be a terrible experience. The only pro is that your good ‘ole friend Jimmy John can deliver a sandwich in less than 15 minutes. And that’s the only thing that’s keeping you motivated.
Here are some tips if you’re stuck studying and life just seems impossible.
1. Coffee Vending Machines
These machines brew heaven in a cup. For less than a dollar, you can get yourself a smallcup of pipinghot coffee. It'sthe best bang for your buck. Located all around campus– in the Student Center, CULC, library, Flag building, and the CoC– you can get cheap, delicious coffee wherever you are studying. Starbucks is triple the price and doesn’t even offer Butterfinger flavored coffee.
2. Dominos Accepts Buzzfunds
Whether you’re currently on a meal plan or have leftover Buzzfunds from previous years, what better way to spend them than on a hot, cheesy pizza delivered right to you.
3. 3rd Floor Library West
With new state-of-the-art desks, chairs, couches, and outlets, this is the place to get your crunch-time studying done. A floor designated to quiet, private studying, this spot is a personal favorite. But as a warning, be sure to grab a spot early during dead week, because those cubicles will be filled 24/7.
4. Highland Bakery Express
This little gem has just made its mark in the 1st floor Library East commons (across from the vending machines). Serving breakfast sandwiches, hot paninis, soups, salads, sweet pastries, coffee, and more, stop by to get a quick taste of Highland Bakery Express’s menu items Monday through Friday from 6 A.M. to 10 P.M.
5. Noise-cancelling headphones
These are a great investment and will help you concentrate on your studies while listening to your favorite music artists. Good noise-cancelling headphones can get a little pricey, so make sure to find a pair that you will last you throughout your time at tech.
6. SelfControl App
If we’re all being honest, most of us college students have a hard time keeping off our social media. This app allows you to add addictive sites to a “blacklist” and block them until the set timer ends. Available to download on selfcontrolapp.com or on your smartphone, there is no sneaking around this little bugger.
7. Sweatshirts are Your Friend
It can sometimes get chilly in Georgia Tech facilities and when you have the goose bumps, it’s gets pretty hard to concentrate. Bring a jacket or sweater in your backpack to avoid the misery that is too much air conditioning.
8. Midnight Rambler
At the end of the night and it’s time to go home, take advantage of transportation offered by Georgia Tech. Try out the Midnight Rambler, operating every night from 9 P.M. – 3 A.M. The route begins at the Clough roundabout, includes a stop at North Ave, and ends at Fitten Hall for all of you west campus residents.
