Heaven Or Las Vegas?

Pool parties, nightclubs, and endless sleepless nights is what awaits you in Las Vegas -- amongst other things

Heaven Or Las Vegas?
Yoselin Calderon

Vegas is a whole other world, where you escape your reality -- that is, until you go home and check your bank account.

I’ve always read, seen on movies, and heard people saying “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” Well, I never fully understood what that meant until I went.

The weekend before the start of my senior year in college, my friends and I decided to go to Vegas to celebrate Vanessa's 21st birthday. Little did we know our lives were going to change. Our trip started out on Thursday and was supposed to end on Saturday morning -- but that, my friends, did not occur. Instead, we book another night and change Melissa's flight; meanwhile, we're intoxicated. We were sucked into the party life swiping our credit cards left and right like there was no tomorrow.

While you’re in Sin City, you’re living the party life day and night. We would wake up, drink, get ready, drink, go to a pool party, drink, meet a few people and turn up with them at their hotels. Then, we would go back to our hotel and get ready for the evening, plus drink some more.

Throughout this whole time, there wasn’t a single sober vein in our bodies. We would have lunch and dinner, and we’d get complimentary shots, as well as VIP everywhere we went. How could we not love life in Vegas?

Our last day there was almost like "Hangover." No one slept in our hotel room, and everyone was running around trying to find each other and catch our flight home and make it in time for my 8 a.m. class with a max of six hours of sleep from our entire trip.

Nothing can prepare you for a getaway in Vegas, not even if you attend a party school, or try to plan your itinerary. Vegas will hit you with the unexpected, steal your dignity, clothes, shoes, and your credit cards.

Las Vegas, you kicked our butts and backtracked us in school, but it’s nothing we couldn’t handle. I wish I could tell you all my experiences there, besides the drinking and going, but “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.”

See you soon, Vegas.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
