For some, the hot weather in Chicago is a blessing after the long, long winter. For others, the heat is terrible and inescapable and sweat-inducing. Here are some things you can do to get away from the insufferable heat for just a little bit.

1. Museum of Contemporary Art

Whether you love art or just like to get pics for Instagram, the MCA should be a go-to. You can relax in the cool indoors or check out some of the newer outdoor additions. Plus, you can grab some food at their new restaurant. For more info, check out their website here.

2. The Art Institute of Chicago

Similar to the MCA, but with a different collection. While they do have a contemporary section, they have some of the most famous paintings in existence, from Monet's "Water Lillies" to Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte." They'll be sure to have something that you'll love. Their website, found here, has more information

3. Museum Campus

The museum campus is three activities all in one. Whether you prefer space, the ocean, or natural history, you'll be sure to find something you love. You can find info about the Field Museum here, the Shedd Aquarium here, and Adler Planetarium here.

4. See a movie

'Tis the season to go catch a summer blockbuster in theaters! There are so many new movies out and so many places to see them. Gene Siskel Film Center has a great selection of films. You can find more info here.

5. Find some water!

Whether you go play at Buckingham Fountain or you take a Water Taxi, there's plenty of places to go splash around to cool off. Try Grant Park's art installation that you can play around in.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.
