I spent this past weekend at Heroes Con in Charlotte. It was the first big con I've visited, and I had a blast. The whole experience was amazing, and it was even more special since I got to go with some or my friend from college. There were many things that I saw at this con, some in particular that warmed my heart.
First, there was the demographic. There were people of all ages and from all walks of life at the Charlotte Convention Center.
It was amazing to see everyone from newborns to senior citizens there. It seems your never too old, or young, to express your love for your favorite fictional characters.Next, there were kids taking pictures with their favorite characters.
Cons are places you can go and feel at home with the people there. You can run up to total strangers who'll be more than happy to take a picture with you. Parents even feel comfortable letting their children approach strangers because they know they'll be OK. With all the craziness going on in the world, it's nice to know that there are some places people can meet up with people to have fun and nerd out with each other.
Finally, I saw amazingly talented artists displaying and selling their work.
(This was a commission an artist named Jet Taylor did for me. You can check out more of her art here.)
It was awesome to see pieces from young and old artists. To see hours of hard work, precision and attention to detail come to life in the form of a gorgeous painting or realistic sketch is an incredible sight to behold. Especially during a time when art isn't fully appreciated, it was refreshing to see so much beauty in one place.
These are just a few things I witnessed at this con, and I'm sure you can find these at other cons, too. Since this weekend, I now want to attnd as many cons as possible to experience these feelings and sights again (and meet my favorite voice actors at some point).
