With summer right in front of you, it's up to you to make it great. The school year can get hectic, so summer is a great time to reset your life and get back on a good track. Here are 8 healthy summer habits to help you create a full and successful summer!
1. Wear sunscreen.
I would hope that this is pretty obvious by now. Lobster doesn't look good on anyone. Neither does leather.
2. Enlighten yourself.
Read a good book. Invest time in a topic you are interested in, whether it be history, math, law, a language, science, grammar, business, anything. Pick up a hobby. Take this time to do something you've always wanted to.
3. Exercise in fun new ways or old favorite ways.
Used to love to jump rope? Try it again. Never danced? Join an indoor (air-conditioned!) dance class. Join an aerobics class. Jump on a trampoline or go to a trampoline park. Or just go to a park for a walk. If you live near a pool, the beach, a lake, or any body of water, go for a swim every morning or afternoon. Get together with a group of friends for regular fun workouts. Hike a new mountain every week with friends or alone. You could even join a club team for baseball/softball, soccer, running, or flag football. Go outside and have fun!
4. Experiment with food
You saw a recipe on Pinterest a few months ago but didn't have time for its 15 steps? You do now! Not only has cooking has been shown to be therapeutic, but you can invite friends over to share the experience with. You can also prepare for new meals to enjoy in the fall. You can freeze stuff for the future, or perfect a certain style of food. The more often you make the same recipe, the faster you get at it. Plus, you can bring food with you when you go to work, to see friends and family, or to keep at home.
5. Make time for family.
If you're away for the summer, don't forget to make a guest appearance at home. Hug your parents. Reunite with your pets. Annoy your siblings. Eat home-cooked meals. Wander around your old neighborhood. No matter your reason(s) for going home, it's always good to be back.
6. Make time for friends old and new.
Make a schedule with friends. Maybe have a movie night once a week. Making time for distant friends can be tricky, especially as you get older. People's schedules fill up quickly with work, birthdays, family vacations, weddings, and so forth. However, with enough determination and maybe some compromises, this is totally possible.
7. Make time for yourself.
If you want to sleep in, do it. If you want to try a new look, now's the time. Want to pick up a hobby, go to a nearby place, or start any other new adventure? There's no time like summer time.
8. Get Into a Steady Routine
This one is probably the most important habit of all. Without a steady routine, it is really easy to fall off of the wagon and lose track of your goals. Use google calendar to keep track of your responsibilities. Set alerts in your phone. Make to-do lists and make plans based off of these lists. This isn't only with life events, but is also important for meal-time, exercising, and any free time really.
