If you spend even just five minutes a day on Facebook, then I'm sure you've seen at least one "Tasty" video. Tasty is a section of Buzzfeed that features quick video tutorials on various dishes. Many of their recipes can be high in calorie, sodium, and fat content. Because of this, Buzzfeed created a Tasty sub-channel called "Goodful." While the food they feature may be healthy, it sometimes seems to lack creativity and flavor dimension. Food can be both nutritious, healthy, and delicious so here are a few recipes I've pulled up to help you kick-start your New Year's Resolution without sacrificing taste.
1. Orecchiette Pasta with Chicken Sausage and Broccoli
Hi, surprise you can eat pasta and still be healthy. Just swap white pasta out for whole wheat pasta. Chicken sausage is considerably better than pork sausage. Just make sure it's not too high in fat/ sodium before purchasing.

2. Baked Tilapia
I use this recipe every time I make tilapia except I use real garlic sliced thin, olive oil instead of butter, chopped fresh parsley, and different seasonings. Wrap the tilapia in foil and bake as instructed.

3. Greek-Style Pork Chops
Pork chops are a healthier alternative to red meat since they're relatively lean. Serve it alongside vegetables and whole grains.

4. Light Chicken Salad
I love having chicken salad for lunch because it's rich and creamy, but mayo is full of fat so non-fat greek yogurt is a great substitute. Simmer the chicken in low sodium chicken broth with bay leaves, curry powder, and black peppercorns to get some flavor in without having to cook with oils. You can serve this in a lettuce wrap or on some whole wheat toast. Follow the recipe and season/garnish to your liking.

5. Egg white frittata
This is a very versatile recipe because you can add any vegetable you want. It's great for brunch or if you're going breakfast for dinner. Throw some low sodium ham into the pan if you dare. Egg whites have negligible amounts of fat (which you can add back into your meal with some olive oil in the pan) and loads of protein! Don't worry about wasting all of those egg yolks. You can use it to make a hair mask since the cholesterol and fat will add shine to your tresses.

When eating healthy, it's important to remember that carbs and fat are your friends. The difference lies in the choices you make about them. Sticking to healthier fat products like avocados, nuts, and certain oils are much better than full-fat dairy products, red meats, and hydrogenated oils. Complex carbs are great too since they provide your body with energy. Complex carbs can include whole wheat and whole grains, vegetables, and beans. You'll want to stay away from simple carbs like sugar, cereals, baked goods, white bread/pasta, and concentrated fruit juices. Complex carbs have more fiber and will digest slowly which means a slower well-timed energy release. Simple carbs burn fast in your body and can spike your blood sugar. When eating protein make sure to keep it lean and avoid frying/deep frying cooking methods.
Have a healthy and happy 2017 and don't forget to keep an eye on your macros!
