Eating healthy at college is sometimes a challenge, especially if your diet is limited due to allergies or intolerance to specific types of food. Eating healthy can be a challenge, as dining halls offer a plethora of carb-heavy foods. Fresh or steamed veggies are often difficult to find amongst all the pizza, pasta, and fried foods. For someone who is both gluten-free and lactose intolerant, it can be a real struggle to find something that is healthy, has enough protein, and fills you up. Luckily, I have been able to find ways to get good food on campus using a few different strategies. It takes time to learn the different amenities that your university offers, but just know that often times they were willing to get you what you need in order to stay healthy.
At Marquette, the dining hall employees are always willing to cook me up a plain piece of grilled chicken or a plain turkey burger, without a bun. There's gluten free bread at the sandwich station and I have found that most soups are safe as well. Having protein bars and fruit in your mini fridge is also super helpful and convenient for those early mornings when you're in a rush to get to class.
Above all, don't be afraid to ask for help finding foods that meet your dietary needs. People are more than willing to help and your health comes before anything else.
