So, I've got this small crush, and it's on food. If you're anything like me, you'd love for your taste buds to explode with pleasure after every bite you take. For a lot of us, that means chocolate cake, barbecue chips, and fries dipped in milkshakes. Yum! Totally yum, and it's totally okay to splurge. However, for that Monday afternoon where you need an energy boost and a guilt-free snack, it's time to turn to healthy options that will STILL leave you drooling. Yummy and healthy?! I think yes.
As a lover of food, health education, and cooking, I definitely enjoy exploring in the kitchen. After trial and error, I've created 5 scrumptious snacks that are some of my absolute faves. Feel free to switch out ingredients and get creative with these recipes yourself. This article provides inspiration for you to whip up snacks that will satisfy your cravings. Mmmm. Let's get to it.
1. Peppers with feta and chili powder
maddiefoxyfox
STEPS:
- Slice small bell peppers in half and gut 'em
- Crumble feta cheese on top
- Sprinkle chili powder over peppers
Super easy, super fast, super tasty. Not a fan of feta or chili powder? Try other cheese or seasonings! Sprucing up raw vegetables is an incredible way to get them into your diet in a ... well, not so terrible way.
2. Yogurt bowl with fruit, oats, honey, and cinnamon
maddiefoxyfox
STEPS:
- Scoop up your favorite flavor of Greek yogurt
- Add some grains (oats/ granola)
- Pile on your favorite fruit
- Drizzle on honey
- Sprinkle on cinnamon
And voila! Tastes like dessert, but it includes ingredients that do wonders for your body. This is a popular snack to have, but here is my take on it. Easy peasy snack. Yummy in your tummy.
3. Avocado toast with egg, onion, and goat cheese
maddiefoxyfox
STEPS:
- Scramble an egg ... or sunny-side up it. Your choice
- Smash up a fresh avocado (free-sha-vacado for my Vine lovers)
- Slice a few rings of an onion
- Crumble up goat cheese
- Toast whole-wheat bread for true health gurus. My personal favorite for this snack, however, would be good 'ole sourdough. Bad influence? Whatever
- Spread your avocado on top of your toast, followed by a few crumbles of your goat cheese and your egg
- Garnish with onion, salt, and pepper
Alright, this could pass as breakfast too, but it's so yummy that you'll let it slide as a snack. This is one of my favorites to make because it is delicious AND filling. Possible side-effects: magnificent energy boost.
4. Apple peanut butter toast

STEPS:
- Slice up an apple. I prefer to go with the teacher's pet, honey-crisp. However, gala will do...
- Toast up 100% whole-grain toast
- Slather 1 tablespoon of peanut butter on top. Fun alternative: apple butter
- Stack up those apple slices
Storytime. I am the queen of eating on the go. This snack idea originated from rushing out the door and only having a few fingers to hold my snack of peanut butter toast and apple slices. So what is a girl to do? Top off her toast with apple slices! Turns out that apple slices atop of toast creates an addicting crunch. Along with the other snacks, these toast toppings will satisfy your hungry stomach.
5. Mango salsa
maddiefoxyfox
STEPS:
- Small dice red onion, red peppers, mango, and jalapeño
- Mince cilantro
- Combine ingredients
- Add lime juice and a dash of salt
- Serve with corn chips
Each snack should take no longer than 15 minutes to prepare. In this busy life we live, take the time to make sure you are fueling your body with the things it needs to keep trekking along. You, and your taste buds, deserve such treatment.
