What It's Actually Like Being A Healthcare Worker And Student This Semester

Working and attending school is tough under normal circumstances.

Throughout my entire schooling, I have always worked either a full-time or part time job. Recently, however, I have started a new job as a pharmacy technician at a local hospital.

Working full time as a pharmacy technician in a hospital setting is stressful under normal circumstances. On top of that, I attend college full time as well. Coming home from work is no simple task these days. My return home involves washing my clothes and taking a shower etc

Completing such tasks, while exhausted from work already, can get tiring. Add school on top of that, and you are looking at a full schedule.

To say teachers have become more accommodating during this time, in my case, would be false. Universities are still following old exemptions regarding rescheduling tests etc.. I feel that especially for the Fall 2020 semester this should have been relaxed or at least accommodating to healthcare and front-line workers.

In my circumstance, I have taken exams at work, during lunch, which if you are a pharmacy technician, you know finding time to take a lunch is a struggle in itself.

Despite the challenges, however, I have still been able to complete my assignments and homework, but I am tired 100 percent of the time.

Recommendations I would give current and upcoming healthcare workers would be to PLAN! I personally love the Google Calendar app. You can add this app to your phone or tablet etc.

You can add daily to-dos, events, assignments etc.. The best aspect of this app is Google Calendar will not allow you to schedule more things than there are hours in a day. (Which is perfect when you have a busy schedule all the time.)

Fellow frontline and healthcare workers/students: please know you got this, and we will get through this together.
