We have all heard that owning pets, specifically dogs, can improve a person's health. Here are some reasons you should consider getting a dog, or two, or seven... I have two dogs and couldn't imagine a life without them.

1. Dogs reduce stress

We all know some aspects of owning a dog can be stressful, but spending time with your furry friend can ease stress by lowering blood sugar and your overall stress levels. Dogs also increase the brain's levels of serotonin and dopamine, these chemicals help you to relax and unwind. This is why therapy dogs are so useful for people going through difficult times and tragic loses.

2. Dogs promote a healthy heart

Dogs fill our hearts with joy and happiness, but they also have been shown to help to lower blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels. All of these lowered means a lowered risk of heart attacks and a happy heart.

3. Dogs keep their owners active

Most dogs require time outside and even walks, keeping your dog active keeps you active and leads to a healthy lifestyle. Go out and play some fetch, or take your dog on a walk to help each other get your steps in. Playing with your dog is a great opportunity for exercise; make them your work out buddy and find fun new ways to sweat.

4. Your dog can help you lose weight

Ice cubes are Daisy's favorite snack.

With all that moving, this means your dog can help you lose weight! It's much more fun to go for a run with your furry friend than alone. Who wouldn't be motivated by a cute puppy running beside them?

5. Dogs can help ward off depression

Dogs have been shown to help people suffering from depression by fending off loneliness and by helping their owners get active. They add purpose and meaning to a person's life, which can be a big push. They bring happiness just by showing up and wagging their tails!

6. Dog owners socialize more

Go any place with your dog and you'll get so many more people talking to you than without them. People will stop and marvel at your adorable companion, as well as other dog owners will stop and chat, or use the opportunity to socialize their own dog. Not to mention a dog is a great icebreaker. I hear they make pretty good wingmen as well.

7. They reduce loneliness

Having a dog around can be great companionship. They are great listeners and will keep all your secrets safe. They also make great cuddle buddies for those nights you're feeling extra down and just need a pick me up.

8. Dogs are a great source of entertainment

Have you ever seen a clumsy puppy dive after their favorite ball? Or listened to a dog argue with their owner? Dogs are hilarious and can always provide a good laugh. Next time you're feeling down, just search for funny dog videos on YouTube

Dogs can bring so much joy to a person's life, If you've never had a dog you're seriously missing out. I plan to always have a dog in my life and I think you should too.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
