He Is Not My President

And he never will be...

He Is Not My President

Election Day. A day in America full of hope, prosperity, and new beginnings. As a 16 year old, I faced my first election that I personally cared about the victor, rather than just repeating what my parents had told me. I was excited because I was educated and I was clear on my positions. I truly believed the more qualified candidate would win, but unfortunately, like most of America, I was mistaken.

Although, I really do believe Hillary Clinton should have won based on experience alone, that is not what I am most devastated about. I am devastated that a man, who has personally offended every minority, still found a way to win. Our country is so deep rooted in hate, that we voted for such a negative and hurtful man to lead us. I am devastated for the young boys who will look up to our president and think it is okay to talk to people like they are worthless because they are different. I am devastated for the young girls who will look up to our president and who will now think they are supposed to be treated lesser based on their gender. I am devastated for the people of color who feel as though all the progress that has been made for them, has been wasted. I am devastated for the lgbtq+ community who now no longer feels safe to be who they are. I am devastated for the muslims who are are going to continue to get scrutinized based on their religion alone. I am devastated for the immigrants who thought America was safe, and welcoming. I am devastated that our country would rather have a man that preaches hate be our president, than a women.

That being said, I cannot accept Donald Trump to be our president. I know it is reality and it is happening whether I want it to or not, but I cannot simply come to terms with this. I am worried about the future and I am worried about every group of people that is not the white straight male. I wish we could have a president that not only tolerates differences, but encourages them. I wish we could have a president that is respectful of everyone, but sadly that will not be the case for the next 4 years. I consider myself a democrat. Yet, I refuse to accept Donald Trump as my president not because he is a republican, but because everything he stands for goes beyond his political party. His values are un-american and he should not be the person who is representing our country.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
