When you were in grade school, everyone seemed to look forward to summer. Pool parties, no homework, and beach trips. It was the eleven weeks of freedom that you could get before having to go back to school the following nine months of the year.

It was a much-needed break filled with late nights, friends, ice cream, warm weather, and sunsets.

However, in college, summer takes on a whole other meaning. In college, summer means getting a job. And although you like making money, you tire of the 9-10 hour days, 5 days a week. You constantly have to tell your friends "sorry, I can't, I have work." You have to think about taking off time weeks in advance for vacations or other commitments to avoid getting a scheduling conflict. Because that's what you're expected to do as an adult, right?

You're expected to work. Here are just a few of those little things we have to deal with as a part of the workforce.

Getting scheduled for shifts starting at an ungodly hour in the morning.

Forgetting your morning coffee because you overslept your alarm.

And then feeling the urge to surf Snapchat and Instagram on your phone when you have a single minute off.

Dealing with difficult (or strange) coworkers.

But trying to be friendly and do your job anyway.

Asking for time off and not getting it.

But then asking for another week and getting it off.

Then going to work for the weeks leading up to your time off just daydreaming.

Coming home from vacation.

But then the feeling of walking home with your paycheck and knowing that you didn't waste your time.

Because, the working life can really feel great sometimes.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
