I am a big believer that everyone should think more. When I say this, I mean that people should open their minds to big ideas and spend more time creating, imagining, and learning. When one thinks of big questions one can develop big answers and can create something amazing. So, below I have listed some questions I like to think about and I think you will too. Share these with your friends, discuss them, figure out new ones to ask. Everyone should think freely and learn the importance of thought. It is valuable in such a materialistic world.
1. Why do people love stories so much?
Why is it someone can get attached to a character they know is purely fiction? Why do all people, from cave men with cave paintings to modern day with films and books, tell stories? Is it in our nature to? Why? Think about it.
2. Why do people love music?
Again, music has been apart of humanity for most of history. It is something I believe each individual loves. Music also has multiple genres and has changed drastically over the history of humans. Why is music today so much different from a decade ago? A century ago? A few centuries ago? Think about it.
3. Do you find yourself more intrigued by the past or the future?
Do you have hundreds of history books? Do you love medieval lore and the different time periods? Or are you more into dystopian and utopia novels about what the future might hold? Think about it.
4. What sense would you give up if you had to give up one?
Touch, taste, hearing, sight, smell....which one is the least important to you? Why? Which one do you feel you need, or use, the most? Think about it.
5. If you could change anything about the world what would you change?
I know that almost everyone has an idea of how to make the world better, what is yours? Now, what will you do to see that in action? Think about it.
6. Who is someone you look up to?
Why do you look up to them? What attributes do they have that you can work towards? What is something you can do to be a better person for others to admire you? Think about it.
7. What is something "physical" you would love to change about yourself. Why do you want to change that part?
I know that I myself am self-conscious and I am sure everyone else in the world is too, even if some people don't come across that way. People would love to change their weight, their hair color, their nose, and countless other things about themselves. But why is that? Why aren't we happy with ourselves? Why do we all have something we'd like to change? Think about it.
8. What is something "non-physical" you would love to change about yourself. Why?
By non-physical I mean something about us that isn't our bodies. Personally, I would love to change the fact that I am lazy and procrastinate. Now this is something I can change and should change. What is yours? Think about it.
9. Is it worse to fail at something or never attempt it in the first place?
We have all failed and we have all "chickened out" but which is worse? Never trying, or failing at what we wish to succeed at? Think about it.
10. If today was the last day of your life, what would you choose to do?
It is scary to think of your last day, but if you could choose to live your last day as one of your best, what would you choose? Would you be with family? Check things from your bucket list? Go about your day normally? Think about it.
11. What were you doing when you last lost track of time?
Loosing track of time often means one is enjoying what they are doing. Is it being submerssed in your favorite novel? When you are with your friends? When you are outside on a nice day? What makes you loose track of time? Think about it.
I hope that I have given you some simple ideas to think about and that they will grow into even bigger, more complex questions. Thinking is something the human mind needs. Thinking leads to problem-solving which leads to doing. We all should take time off from our material world and step into our minds, allowing them to be open to new ideas. We all want to change the world, so start thinking and start doing.
