Have You Ever Felt Alone In A Crowded Room?

“And all the while I feel like I’m standing in the middle of a crowded room, screaming at the top of my lungs, and no one even looks up.”- Titanic

Have You Ever Felt Alone In A Crowded Room?

Every person in their lifetime, no matter the gender or race, goes through a period of time, whether it be a transitioning period of schools, jobs, loss, etc. where they just feel completely lost. I just wanted to let you know, you are not alone.

Feeling lost is not only a terrible feeling, but it ties in hand and hand with feeling lonely. Feeling lost makes you question if you fit in with your friends, are you making your family happy, are you living up to the expectations that have been presented to you? These are all questions that cross the mind of a man or woman who doesn’t know where to turn.

It isn’t uncommon that when you feel this way, you shut down totally. Believe me, many people do.

One main reason people feel lost or lonely is because they themselves cannot find their purpose in life. I have noticed that recently, even speaking to my friends and family what we forget our self-worth and we forget what we are on earth to do. Everyone has a purpose and everyone has a reason to live here. No one is just a waste of space.

The feeling of having no purpose in life is one that can ruin your life though if there is nobody to talk you out of it. Feeling lost or lonely will make you want to rip your hair out. You feel alone or isolated, worthless, scared, and sometimes as if the whole world is coming to an end. There are some things that you always have to remember when you begin to feel this way.

  1. You have more control over this feeling than you think.
    1. Many people don’t like to hear this line, but when it comes to this, most of it is in your head. Whenever you feel like yours lost it is very hard to try to be optimistic about things. What we fail to realize in times like this is that being optimistic about life is what is actually going to help us find ourselves.
  2. Everything happens for a reason.
    1. Everything that occurs in your life is for a reason. If you feel like this is a step back for you, it probably means many amazing things are coming your way.
  3. It's okay that you feel like this, everyone does.
    1. To feel like you are alone and you’re crawling out of your own skin is a very common feeling people will say they have experienced. You are not weird, strange, or over dramatic, you are normal. It is okay to feel as though nobody understands, but it is your job to get yourself on track and realize your self-worth and how strong of a person you are.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
