5 Tips To Help You Have The Best Spring Break

As the first few weeks of the semester go by, and we all settle in the semester, we start feeling the need to look forward to something, anything. We think to ourselves, "oh my god when is the next day off?" and "when is it appropriate to miss class?" or "Is winter ever going to end?" This is when we remember, spring break. Thank the lord. The best part? It is only a few weeks away. The worst part? "Spring" isn't always spring. That's why it is often best to buy a plane ticket and say "Goodbye" to winter weather, for a few days at least. Since you only have a few weeks to plan, here are some tips to having the best spring break possible.

1. Inspire Yourself

Think of all of the amazing places you can see yourself going (or afford) and make a list. Start brainstorming any ideas you possibly can for each destination. Get a group going, the more ideas the better. In the end, if you still can't all pick one place, pick a place from a hat! Let the fates decide.

2. Create A Budget

Creating it is the easy part, the harder part is sticking to it! Check out cheap sites for things like plane tickets and hotels. My favorites are StudentUniverse and Expedia. Some site's even offer tons of discounts when you book them together. If you aren't intimidated by staying in someone's house, try AirBnB for super cheap places to stay. After the main things are done, map out how much you want to spend while you are gone, add up food, drinks, activities and travel in between place to place. Last step? Start saving.

3. Get to the gym!

What better reason to motivate yourself to get to the gym than looking extra hot for spring break? Make a pact with your travel buddies to go together for even more motivation. If all else fails, promise yourself something you can use over spring break as a prize, like a bikini, new dress or new sunglasses.

4. Pack light

Chances are, if you are going somewhere warm (hopefully!), you do not need your entire closet. Plan out outfits day by day before you start throwing everything you own into your bag. Make sure to pack an extra outfit in your carry-on, just in case. The less luggage, the fewer problems, and the less money wasted!

5. Be Prepared

Of course, no one wants to jinx themselves and think anything terrible will happen while you are supposed to be having the time of your life, but before you leave for break, make extra copies of important documents like your driver’s license, health insurance ID and passport. Keep copies in your hotel, in your purse, and even at home with your family. Print out an outline of your schedule for family or friends at home just so they sort of know where you are. Want to be extra prepared? Bring an extra phone charger!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
