Halloween has always been an exciting holiday to look forward to. First, because we got candy — like, A LOT of candy — and got to dress up, and what kid doesn't love to dress up? Then it grew into a little bit of awkwardness where maybe we were too old to go around the neighborhood to collect candy, but I still did it because, well, I love chocolate. Now it's a great weekend we get to be someone else for a night and spend time with our friends.
In my group of friends we are pretty crafty, so standard are high. But even if you are not a pinterest pro you can make your costume this year. I would like to share some tips that you can consider for this year which will not require you to go to one of the awful Halloween stores that have a sexy firefighter costume.
1. Consider how realistic you are with creating a costume.
Have you ever
2. How much time do you have?
Are you reading this and have a Halloween party tomorrow? Let's set some realistic expectations on what we can make in only a few hours.
3. Consider what you already own and think how could you repurpose it
Remember the Santa hat you bought because it was sparkly but you only got to wear it one time. Did you buy a blonde wig last year? Let's use it for something else!
If you are reading all of this and thinking... sounds nice but no way can I make a costume. Recruit help! You know the awesome friend who always has the best makeup? Ask her to do your makeup and find a costume that just needs an awesome face. Or try practicing some simple looks on your own during the week so you are not left to the night of to figure out how to fix your whiskers.
In the end, it is always more fun when you can be proud of your creative or funny costume. Anything but the store-bought nurse uniform from Spirit Halloween, please. Start early! Check what you already have at home! When needed, ASK for help!
Best of luck!
