School Spirit

Having school spirit can make high school so much better.

High School is not always fun, we all know this is true. We have homework, tests, finals, unfair situations, and just drama in general, but with a little school spirit, High School can be pretty amazing. We have sports, dances, and so many other events that we can go to and participate in. I always love getting together with my friends an hour before the Football games to dress up for the theme and get ready before heading out to cheer on our team. I will admit sometimes we feel ridiculous showing up to the game in our full army outfits or wearing all black with stripes on our face, but once we get there and we are standing in the student section surrounded by everyone else that is just as pumped as we are everything goes away and we can just focus on the game and the people around us. Then the energy that courses through the crowd when we score a touchdown is electrifying, everyone jumps up and down and cheers. There are other sports too, though, like hockey games. We all get-together and share blankets and watch the game with hot chocolate. Or basketball, going to basketball games and joining the student section is always fun because everyone is so excited we don't even sit down and there are so many other sports to go watch too! Then we have school dances, my personal favorite, we get to get ready in our nice dresses and pretty makeup, go to dinner in a big group and then when we get to the dance we all take our shoes off and just have a blast for a couple of hours. We sing, dance, and just jump around to the beat of the music.

Afterwards, we usually go to someone's house to hang out a little more and eat some snacks. Then, last but not least we have spirit days. Days where the whole school is supposed to dress up to some theme like jerseys, pajamas, or Hawaiian. I love those days so much because it gives everyone a chance to participate together and just have fun looking silly. The sad thing is not too many people take part in all of these activities because they are either "too cool" or they just feel too awkward, but everyone feels a little awkward until they realize that other people are doing it too and having school spirit looks cool no matter what you're wearing. So I highly encourage everyone to take part in school activities and bring your friends along too, you will always leave with good memories of fun moments in high school.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
