How To Have The Perfect Galentine's Day

Valentine’s Day; the most polarizing Hallmark holiday of the year. To some, it is a day filled with love and appreciation for that special someone that also happens to have the same love for you as you do for them. It’s a day that every store, every building actually, has red, white, and pink decorations hung up from all the windows, not to mention the bowls of those ever so tasty conversation hearts that definitely don’t taste like chalk. But this is also the holiday that is alternatively known as “singles awareness day.”

The day that doesn’t make you smile from ear to ear, your heart doesn’t flutter from the decorations, and you are counting down the hours until the candy gets a half-off discount. That is until the great realization of 2010 when the amazing Leslie Knope let the singles nation in on a secret; recreating Valentine’s Day into Galentine’s Day. And what is Galentine’s Day you ask?

Galentine’s Day is a day of ladies appreciating ladies for just being themselves. It has the feel of that holiday with the mutual love and support, but instead of it coming from a significant other, it is coming from friends! Now I understand that this holiday might be a little confusing in terms of celebrating, but don’t worry I’ll tell you exactly how to do it in style.

1. Gather all your gal-pals

The very first thing you need to do is get all your friends together and meet at a favorite spot, whether it be a restaurant, coffee shop, wherever as long as everyone is together.

2. Have some junk food ready

Junk food is essential for social gatherings; the super bowl wouldn't be fun with salad, tailgating wouldn't be awesome without the bbq, and office parties aren't complete without some kind of sweet treat. Order a pizza, pick up some candy, and load up on the chips because this is going to be a long night. One thing that no one can resist is a cookie cake, just a suggestion.

3. Have an activity ready

This is just if the talking dies down (which might not happen but if it does at least you have a back up). One to consider would be having everyone write their name on a piece of paper and pass it around so people can write their opinion about you. This activity might end up in tears because of all the love everyone will receive, it would be best to have tissues out.

4. Don't bring up significant others

Nothing is worse than having a great time with your girlfriends then Kelley just has to tell you the funniest thing Bradley said the other day. 9 times out of 10, it's not that funny. So to all the Kelleys out there, don't talk about Bradley unless he screwed up so bad that you have to vent about it for the next 45 minutes or else you'll explode.

5. Have fun

That is the goal here; just have as much fun as you can. Go wherever the night takes you, and don't have many restrictions. This day is all about giving love to your friends who deserve it the most. So kick back, relax, and let the gossiping begin.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
