Go Get A Friend

They make life suck a little less.

Go Get A Friend

Life is hard. Growing up is hard. College is hard. Everything is basically hard. What makes everything so great even when it is hard are your friends. Whether you have one hundred friends, or just two or three friends, they always make life suck a little less. Everybody needs just one friend to be able to talk to, vent to, cry to, or whatever helps you with your day.

1. Have a friend that will jam out with you.

Whether it is to K-Love or Kane Brown, jam sessions always relieve some stress.

2. Have a friend that will pray with you, and for you.

The friendship I have with the ones I can pray in front of are the most meaningful friendships I have.

3. Have a friend that answers your call at 2 a.m. because you're crying.

If it is over a boy or because your hateful roommate threw away your leftovers, a friend that answers any of your crazy phone calls is worth having.

4. Have a friend that is brutally honest.

Well, in my case, I'm the brutally honest one and I will tell you how I feel whether you like it or not (ask my Big). I only want the best for you.

5. Have a friend that listens to you.

Everybody needs somebody to just talk to, and get their feelings out. Even if its your boyfriend, it's always nice to be able to talk about how you feel.

6. Have somebody that will make time for you, not just somebody that only has time for you when they're free.

Seriously. I want to have a friend that makes time for me instead of only hanging out with me when they aren't busy.

7. Have a friend to share closets with.

Girls, this is actually very important. What about that big date with your dream crush and your broke and have no money for a cute new outfit. Sharing is caring, unless its food.

8. Have a friend that is always down for Mexican.

Chips and salsa, or cheese dip for me, is life.

9. Have a friend of the other gender. Always.

Opinions of a different mind set are great. Girls minds are almost all the same. Boys on the other hands...well we all knows boys are a little different, so it's nice to hear their opinions sometimes. Especially if you're having trouble with a boy.

10. Have a friend that truly loves and cares for you.

When you love someone, you only want the best for them in life. When you care about someone, you make efforts to help them be the best they can be. That's my favorite quality in my few friends. They care about me so when they see me doing something stupid, they tell me. If they know I'm in the wrong, they tell me. Especially my boyfriend; he's really good at telling me when I'm wrong.

So maybe you have great friends like mine, or maybe you don't have friends as great as mine. But you should always have just one that you trust. Friends really do make life suck less.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
