My 2019 Sucks And Here's How I'm Going To Change That

I don't know about you, but 2019 has been ROUGH.

Of course, there have been a lot of positives, and I happily acknowledge them to keep myself sane, but so many bad things have happened to me.

Some are a little more personal and very disheartening, and some were minor inconveniences that all happened at once.

I want to preface this post by saying that I fully believe my 2019 will be better from this point. And I know this because I took a Buzzfeed quiz at the end of 2018 that told me January would be my worst month of the year and December would be my best. The quiz was very right about January, but that means it is really only up from here, right?

I am right because I am going to make sure 2019 will be a good year... and here's how.

1. I'm going to try and stop being so over dramatic

A little harsh, but it is easier to accept disappointments and mishaps when you take them in stride instead of just wallowing about them. And since I really love wallowing I was making myself miserable when I could have been trying to figure out how to make things better.

2. Do more positive things for myself and others

I am going to try and put more good into my life whether that's listening more, going to counseling, or trying to cheat less as a vegan. I read from my natal chart that I attract the most good fortune when I'm being a good person, which duh, but I wasn't being the best version of myself at the beginning of this year and that's when the poop hit the fan, so I think it kind of correlates.

3. I will tell myself I'm beautiful every day

I have been doing this for a while now and it's really working. I have been very happy with myself and who I am inside and out. I think it's important to not get mad at yourself for thinking negatively towards yourself. Instead, it's good to be proud of yourself for the positive thoughts you have.

4. I will try and be more productive so I can spend less time worrying

I have had a pretty good work ethic this entire school year, which has been great. But, there have been a few times when I have left something to do last minute and have been very stressed about that, so I'm not doing that anymore.

5. I will hang out with people who make me feel happy

I pretty much do this already, but I'm also trying to learn how to enjoy my own company more because I want to be the person who makes me happy... does that even make sense? I hope it does.

6. I will understand that there are things in life I can't control

This is a HUGE one for me that I need to work on. But it is also the most important. I didn't even realize how controlling I was until I stopped being able to control every aspect of my life this year. I am continually working on being happy with my life as it is and realizing that I can't stop bad things from happening, but I can choose how I respond to them.

7. I will continue to manifest the things I want to happen for me this year

I have a notebook where I write statements that are hopes for myself and my life this year. Just make sure you write them as if they have already happened. Like "I am grateful for the amazing grades I got this semester," or "I am grateful for the internship I did this summer."

So that's how I will make my 2019 better. Of course, it won't be perfect, and I am not expecting it to be the best year of my life, but I want 2019 to be the year where I made myself happy.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
