The Haunting Of Rejection
McKenzie Lamm

Some people experience rejection early on in life and some don’t experience it until later on. I have learned that rejection can come in all shapes and sizes and most of the time I don’t always recognize it right away.

A couple of years ago I personally experienced a big form of rejection and it hurt. The pain of the rejection still stings to this day. When I get rejected in small ways or experience rejection in my everyday life, I get flashbacks of when I got rejected a couple of years ago. This is what I like to call the haunting of rejection.

When you think of the word of rejection you might think of a girl rejecting a boy for a date but it goes way deeper. Some people feel rejection at school, at home, in abusive relationships, and friendships. Many people take their earthly feelings of rejection and put God in the same spotlight.

When I experienced rejection the other day in a small simple way, my memory was flooded of the incident that happened years ago. I felt the sting of not being wanted, of not being loved, not being embraced and the cut off that humans like to do to each other. The haunting of rejection is going to happen, we are sinful human beings. We have control though of how we handle the haunting of rejection and the flashbacks.

We were thoughtfully and beautifully made. God chose us to be formed in the womb and we were miraculously made by the will of God. The Lord loves us, embraces us, fulfills us, equips us, forgives us, wants us, and holds our right hand through all that we face. We are given the power to speak life over our past, present, and future. The devil has no say over our past, present, or future. The Holy Spirit guides us and speaks life over our rejection. Rejection has no hold on us as Christians; we have overcome rejection, hurt, and sin through the power of Jesus.

We are loved and held by the one who holds the world in his hands. We no longer have to feel the guilt or burden of past rejection from our parents, siblings, friends, exes, teachers, judges, schools, thoughts, and anything else trying to hold us down.

The Lord has equipped you to overcome whatever is in your path. The Lord is at your right hand and I encourage you to speak life over your rejection and thoughts. Isaiah 55:8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. Stop falling under the trap of sin and going by your emotions. KNOW that you are loved, made for a purpose, and our heavenly Father tells of how worthy you are!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
