Mississippi is littered with haunted locations all over the state. These 5 places are some of the most popular and most visited throughout the state. They offer notorious stories of paranormal activity, perfect for adventurous souls.

1. Yazoo City: Witch of Yazoo

One of the most popular haunted stories in Mississippi is the story of the Witch of Yazoo. There was an old swamp witch that lived in the city of Yazoo and met her death in quicksand, while being chased by police. In her final moments she exclaimed that she would return in 20 years and burn the town to the ground. 20 years later, on the same day, 124 buildings and 200 homes burned to the ground in a freak fire. Citizens went to the grave of the witch to find her tomb stone broken and the chain around her grave broken. This story is one that has haunted our state for years and why it makes it first on this list.

2. Natchez: King's Tavern

Another famous place to visit is King's Tavern, which is actually a restaurant in Natchez, MS. This building is one of the oldest buildings in Natchez and is supposedly haunted by Madeline, Richard King's mistress, whose body was found bricked in behind in the fire place of the building along with two other male's remains. There are numerous stories of crying sounds and shadows of people that haunt this establishment, which makes it the perfect place to have a lovely family dinner. The food is great but the experience is better.

3. Oxford: Rowan Oak

Located right in the heart of Oxford is the stately home of William Faulkner, the notable Mississippi author. The ghost of Faulkner supposedly still haunts the home and the grounds of this National Historic Landmark. The home is open for tours and visitors have seen his ghost writing on the walls in his office and captured his ghost in images of the rooms. Legend has it that he haunts the grounds at night to scare of Ole Miss students that try to pay him a visit.

4. Vicksburg: McRaven

This home is known for the numerous deaths that have occurred in the home. Paranormal activity plagues visitors, with anything from slamming doors, forces pushing people, and ghosts appearing throughout the house. This haunted site has appeared on numerous television shows and publications as the most haunted spot in Mississippi.

5. Enterprise: Stuckey's Bridge

Located in Lauderdale County this old bridge is famous for the old inn owner that was hung on the bridge. He would murder guests that checked in for the night, steal their possessions, and throw their bodies in the river. His reign of terror came to an end and he was hung from the bridge's railings. Visitors report seeing him carrying his lantern along the river and one report says the the evil spirit pushed him off of the bridge.

See if you can encounter some of the ghosts of Mississippi for yourself. Hit the road and visit all of these haunted spots, if you dare.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
