Taylor Swift's fifth studio album 1989, was released yesterday and that calls for some reminiscent words about this controversial celebrity.
I remember the exact moment I was introduced to Taylor Swift. It was on the bus ride to middle school, and one of my classmates was playing through possible ringtones she wanted to purchase on her Verizon Envy flip phone; one of the options was "Our Song" from Swift's first self-proclaimed album.
It's crazy having watched Taylor Swift come from that point to where she is now. Is Swift still that sweet country girl at heart? Or has she strayed away from that and fully evolved into this pop anthem princess? I've definitely had my ups and downs with Swift's music but I am jumping back on this wagon. Her new album has some catchy tunes. Personally, I love to shake what my mama gave me to her song Shake It Off. It's among a handful of songs I could definitely listen to on repeat.
Swift has faced ridicule and the burning spotlight for many years and I'm here to lay that to rest. There really is no point in trying to tear Taylor Swift down when all she's been known to do is get right back up, then write a song about it. She knows how to turn the bad, and even the good times into catchy tunes that would get you through those long car rides home. We could all learn a little something form T-Swift; she has learned to "shake it off" in so many ways. She relates to so many types of people. You can't say there's not a song that somehow relates to a situation you've experienced similarly in your life.
Unlike most celebrities her age, Taylor Swift is self-aware, humble when she knows she's in the wrong and honestly, she makes cat ladies look like the new trophy wife. Also, if my boy Bill Lawrence (screenwriter/producer for Friends, Boy Meets World, the Nanny.. need I go on?) says T-Swift is impactful, then she flat out is:
So stop worrying and learn to just love Taylor Swift for who she is. If you choose to ignore my advice, then you're entitled to your own opinion (even if it's wrong). She's also weirdly quirky, and I find that to be an attractive quality.
Here are a few of my favorites from her just released album, 1989:
"Bad Blood" - It's got a nostalgic punk pop feel, reminding one of the Avril Lavigne era back in middle school.
"Style" - A catchy Indie alternative funk ode to the one who will "never go out of style".
"How You Get the Girl" - Your typical Taylor Swift song, tips on how to swoon the females, maybe even her?
