Today may be a sad day for many, but to me it is a call for change, a call to stand up, a call to remember that no matter what LOVE will win at the end of the day.
I'm not here to complain about our choice in president, even if the man is a real life version of a flaming hot Cheeto, but I am here instead to give what many feel we lost last night...hope.
I am here to say that the fight isn't over, far from it indeed, it is just getting started. For America is not what the rest of the world jokes that we are. We are a strong and diverse country who will refuse at the end of the day to allow racist, misogynistic, and homophobic rhetoric to define who we are as a nation. Hate may love Trump, but at the end of the day that old slogan rings true, "Love WiIl Trump Hate."
As a woman, I am terrified. Terrified that my rights will be taken away, terrified that the government will have a say over what happens to my body as if I can't make educated and thought out decisions for myself, but the thing about all of this fear is that it doesn't make me want to cower in a corner, it makes me want to fight.
It makes me want to fight for not only my rights as a woman, but the rights of many who are currently being discriminated because of their skin color, who they love, and who they believe in.
I'm not talking about anarchy or something detrimental like that, I am talking about truly and honestly allowing my voice to be heard. Yes, we as American voters are discouraged that our voice was not truly heard last night, but mark my words... it will be.
For all those scared to be who they are, for those unwilling to come and fight for fear of prosecution, for those of the LGBT community, Muslim faith, Jewish faith, or just plain lacks a certain member of the defining sex between their legs, I am here to say you have a voice and friend in me.
I will not stand for your voices to be taken, I will not stand for your rights to be taken, and I will not stand for this great country to be a place where you feel the need to hide who you are or feel you must live in fear. Our forefathers did not have that vision of the future of our country in mind, we came here to be free and thats exactly what we will continue to strive for.
We must get up and wipe away our tears as we stand together and show the world who we truly are. Show the world we are not what they think we are, show the world we love everyone no matter what color, religion, or sexual preference. We must show that no matter what stands in our way, we will get up, move forward, and always stand for what is right. Do not sit still America, do not feel defeated, for this is truly the call we have all been waiting for.
Take a breath my fellow citizen, for this is not the end, this is just the beginning.
