We attend all these fairytale weddings, see couple kissing on the beach, see hot celebs showing some extra love in the media, watch hot couples working out together, the realize…WE HATE BEING SINGLE. Being single is sometimes viewed negatively in today’s society. “Singleness” can be a touchy topic for some, making them defensive and upset.

Why is that so many of us hate being single?

1. The loneliness

When the loneliness hits you at night, all you want to do is cuddle up in bed, watch The Notebook and cry till you fall asleep. Am I right or am I right? You don’t care about having a boyfriend at this point. It’s just about having someone there who you can cuddle with and who will act like your personal diary. You want to tell someone about the good, the bad, the funny, & even the embarrassing. But who?

2. Lacking adventure

Tumblr, Instagram & Twitter has to make you jealous when you see couples taking pictures at colored walls and local coffee shops. Don’t you want to try all those different restaurants and dessert bars with someone besides your girlfriends or “Bros”? I mean think about it, who doesn’t want to going on shopping sprees with bae, or maybe a day at couple spa, or even skydiving together?

3. The pressure

You have this constant pressure on you given by your friends and family. All your friends end up finding “The one” and all you can think about is, why cant you? Family continuously tells you that you need to be like your sister and find someone and get your life together. Just being single seems like your life is more behind than everyone else’s. Once you hit your mind to late twenties, you feel like you’ll be forever single, don’t you?

4. The other couples

What does the beach, the mall, the college campus and Universal Studios have in common? ITS FILLED WITH THE CUTEST COUPLES YOU’LL EVER SEE! Doesn’t that make you jealous? You’ll see PDA that seems gross, but deep down you wish it were you. When you see couples taking care of each other when they’re sick and all you can do is call up your mom for that homemade soup recipe for your nasty flu.

5. “The singleness”

Maybe the single life just isn’t for you. We’ve all heard “I love being single” but do they really? Who would like to be lonely all the time? Of course we all need our time alone, but we also need that special mate to show us love and affection. We need someone to constantly make us feel special. We all have self-confidence and we’re all beautiful people, but what even better? Two self- confident and beautiful who love each other.

I hate being single.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
