I Hate 2016

This year has been the worse year in my 20 years of being alive.

2016 had been the worst year that I have ever experienced. It all started with David Bowie dying, then Alan Rickman, then Prince, and the deaths just didn’t stop. My faith in America died when Bernie Sanders lost to Hillary rigging the votes. Then, even more famous people died. My college hired a teacher a week before the new school year started, and I was stuck with her for 3 and a half months. While I’m sure she’s fine as a teacher at other schools, she was teaching at an art school and our previous Art History teacher taught us well, quickly went over the material that we did last last class, and gave us reviews for things that will be on the test and a few that won’t. No bullshit at all. Can’t say the same for the new teacher. Her style maybe a bit wonky.

It didn’t stop there: more famous icons died, terrorists were attacking hospitals, and Trump, a orange no nipple neanderthal, became president! Like how far does America need to dig a hole until they hit rock bottom? What kind of unbalanced system allows for one race of people to overthrow the voice of every other race? Then, we find out that Russia hacked the voter ballots, and the electoral college still vote for Trump. Any other time Americans hear about Russia they think of communism, and (I’m pretty sure the majority of them don’t know what it even is) they get up in arms. But, when Russia helps Trump they suddenly are buddy-buddy with Russia. This country is so damn backwards when it comes to dumbass republicans that it hurts. And it's going to hurt even more when he ruins America and whatever chance it had at actually bettering itself because he's not a politician, he's a business man: that's like hiring a comedian to do open heart surgery!

Ugh. I wish the list ended there, but sadly it continues. More icons have died and are still dying even as 2016 is closing, with the latest deaths of Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds. This shit better not continue into 2017.

On the Upper East Side, Blair Waldorf is an icon. She's what every girl aspires to be. She's beautiful, confident, and can handle any obstacle that life throws at her. Sure, she may just be a television character. But for me, she's a role model and theres a lot that can be learned from Queen B.

We Heart It

Over the past decade, television has undergone a very crucial transition: the incorporation of female lead characters. Since it's a known fact that girls actually do run the world (Beyonce said so herself), it's time for the leading ladies of the small screen to get some credit. Without these characters, women would still be sitting in the background of our favorite shows. These women are not only trailblazers for female empowerment, but role models for women worldwide. With that, here are 15 of the smartest, sassiest ladies gracing our screens that remind us that women do, indeed, rule:
