This week, people around the country were shocked to find out that entertainment mogul Harvey Weinstein was accused of sexual harassment and assault multiple times. The only ones who were not surprised were women. And that's because we have to deal with it every day.
Women know what men in high power positions are able to get away with. Just look at some of the offenders: Weinstein, Bill O'Reilly, and, yes, our current President of the United States. Women have dealt with sexual harassment in the workplace for years, and we are tired of it.
In the case of Harvey Weinstein, it shows that even some of the most powerful women in Hollywood are still subject to harassment and assault. Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose McGowan, and Cara Delevigne are just a few that have spoken out about their disturbing accounts with Weinstein.
Harvey Weinstein was once considered as the most powerful man in Hollywood. However, I am not going to list his achievements as a producer. This is because that he has sexually tormented women for decades, getting away with it until now. Who cares that he produced some 'Best Picture' caliber movies when he did it at the expense of women?
However, a powerful man is no match for groups of women who stand up for each other. Just look at the brave women that accused Weinstein of his crimes. Or the Women's March this past January, which eclipsed Donald Trump's inauguration numbers. Harassment happens everywhere, whether it would be from catcalling to sexual assault. What these creeps need to realize is that they won't get away with it for long. As long as women stand up and people actually believe their stories, no man like Harvey Weinstein will ever have a job again.
