How Gardening Can Help You Let Go Of Your Problems

Never plant your problems too deep.

It has been said that if you plant a seed too deep when gardening, your crop will never flourish.

There will never be enough sunlight, never enough water, never enough oxygen, and never enough nutrients in order for the plant to prosper. As a result, there will be no photosynthesis, which means no root, no stem, no leaves, no petals. Just a few seeds buried too deeply into the ground, left there to rot and never reach their full potential.

But if you ask for assistance from someone who has mastered the art of planting just where to put the seeds and how to properly deal with them in order for them to grow, the outcome may be different. Isn't this similar to how humans harvest problems? That if we keep these problems so deeply rooted in us, we too in fact impair the growth process?

Imagine you are soil and your problems are seeds. You bury these problems so deeply inside of you for whatever reason, pride, to not feel like a burden to others, lack of accepting, fear. Whatever the reason, you have buried them so deeply, it almost seems as though you are stuck. These seeds being depression, stress, sadness, anxiety, uncertainty, insecurity, etc. You don't know how to fix these problems, so they are never given the right advice, the proper care, and the guidance.

You have never asked those who may, in fact, be able to help or give you the help that you need in order for your problems to be dealt with properly, which would renew your growth, which every human being so desperately needs and now, you are at a standstill. No growth, no change, just you and the seeds you have planted too deeply inside of you.

What I am trying to say is, if you decide to harvest the personal problems you have, you will never be able to enjoy life, experience new things, share happiness, or grow, all because of these problems and things that still linger so deeply inside of you.

In order to grow, you must take care of your mind, your soul, your body, and that can't always be done alone. Ask for assistance, it does not hurt. Not every cry for help will diminish every problem you harvest, but it will put them back into the perspective they need to be in.

Asking for help and assistance can expose you to ways of getting out of the labyrinth you feel you are in and can pull your seeds or problems out from the soil in which you planted them.

I urge you and whoever may be suffering from harvesting your problems so deeply inside to ask for help, to let someone know how you are feeling, to make people aware, to continue to grow.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
