If you haven't already heard the news, J.K. Rowling is coming out with another Harry Potter book—"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child"—which will be released on July 31 (aka Harry's birthday). It's almost been nine years since the seventh book was published, but that hasn't stopped readers from loving the characters, narrative or magical world. In case you needed a reminder of how much you loved the books or an excuse to start reading them for the first time, here are some quotes to get you through until July.
"It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends."
“It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.”
“I am what I am an’ I’m not ashamed. ‘Never be ashamed,’ my ol’ dad used ter say, ‘there’s some who’ll hold it against you, but they’re not worth bothern’ with.’”
“ 'Why are they all staring?' demanded Albus as he and Rose craned around to look at the other students.
'Don’t let it worry you,' said Ron. 'It’s me. I’m extremely famous.' "
“Things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, if not always in the way we expect.”
"It is a curious thing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who, like you, have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well."
“Is it true that you shouted at Professor Umbridge?'
'Yes,' said Harry.
'You called her a liar?'
'Yes.'
'You told her He Who Must Not Be Named is back?'
'Yes.'
Professor McGonagall sat down behind her desk, frowning at Harry. Then she said, 'Have a biscuit, Potter.' "
“ 'Oh, these people's minds work in strange ways, Petunia, they're not like you and me,' said Uncle Vernon, trying to knock in a nail with the piece of fruitcake Aunt Petunia had just brought him.”
" 'The thing about growing up with Fred and George,' said Ginny thoughtfully, 'is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve.' "
“One can never have enough socks.”
" 'Now, you two — Behave yourselves. If I get one word that you've blown up a toilet or—'
'Blown up a toilet? We've never blown up a toilet.'
'Great idea though, thanks, Mum.' "
"We could have been killed—or worse, expelled."
It's okay to cry over not receiving your Hogwarts letter on your 11th birthday, getting a pet owl, or having any magical, wizarding ability whatsoever. We've all been there. Enjoy re-reading the series... again.
