Harry Potter is one of the most important parts of current pop culture. It is a staple of the 21st century. Even those who have never seen Harry Potter know at least something about it. But here's the unfortunate fact: Harry Potter is only a fantasy. No matter how much we dream about lifting our wands and "accio-ing" our phones over to us, or conjuring up a bouquet of flowers to place on our dining room tables to liven up our meals, we cannot do that. No matter how much we wish that instead of sitting in rush hour traffic jams, we could apparate to our warm homes, we can't. We cannot simply hop on our broomstick and fly away to the places we dream of going, nor disappear into a green flame in our fireplaces and reappear at our friend's home. Brooms don't fly and flames are only green in chem lab.
Harry Potter is one of those works of literature that is always continuing. We are always making up our own Harry Potter stories, making the series have the ending that we feel is perfect. We continue the legacy of the series because we don't want to let it go. That is why we love Harry Potter.
Harry Potter is our fantasy as a generation. We hold onto Harry Potter because of the innocence it brings. I grew up with Harry Potter. Watching the series always brings back to me the innocence of my youth. I remember watching the movies at a much younger age than I should have, both fearing Voldemort standing in my closest at night and dreaming that I could be Hermione, saving the world with Ron and Harry. It is the pure innocence of youth in the first two books that makes Harry Potter so endearing to me. Watching the actors grow up on screen adds a dimension to the books that is otherwise impossible. With the books, you are free to use your imagination, but with the movies, young actors and actresses are physically growing up right in front of your eyes. That is why we love Harry Potter. That is why we fantasize over it. Even though it is a work of fiction, we love the endless possibilities and the idea that the world of Harry Potter is a perfect creation made just for us by an amazing author, J.K. Rowling.
Harry Potter is only a fantasy, but it is our fantasy as a generation. We dream of the perfection presented to us in the series. That is why we love it.
