I have read the "Harry Potter" books so many times that I have lost count, yet, every time I start to read them again I feel as if it was all new. I have been asked many times why do I love this series so much and I guess it's a mix between nostalgia and learning.
I have learned a great deal from this series. I learned about bravery, friendship, loyalty, and love. But, good traits are not the only thing I was able to learn from these books and movies, I was able to learn, in a way easier for me as a growing child about the limitless pain and suffering hate can cause many individuals. And as I reread the series this summer, I am aware that I can compare these situations to our reality.
The last few weeks have been tainted with blood. Shootings perpetrated by hate have been decorating the main pages of the newspapers, our world is in an era in which danger is at every corner.
Let's take a moment to think about the lives that are being stolen unfairly. Let's think about the hate that has led murderers to their actions. Let's think about the rage that, as a community, we are feeling because we want to do more, we want to protect, to fight, to raise our voices as if they were wands to the sky and let everyone hear that we are not going to sit back and relax while our world is being consumed with hate. Yes, "Harry Potter" is a fictional character in a fictional world, surrounded by people who are willing to fight.
We are young people in the real world, tired of the injustices in it. We are ready to take on this world and make it better.
